A useful example

Convert a transparent PNG to WebP for a smaller web asset, or choose JPEG when the image does not need transparency.

Good to know

JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Animated input is not preserved as animation. The downloaded extension matches the actual output format.
